Donnington New ERA club festival - March
Not a good start to the season,  just could not get into race mode and had some problems with the bike. Went home with me and the bike in one piece though which was the most important as it did not count for anything.

Mallory  New ERA Superclub Round 1 - April.
Always a nightmare the first round with grid positions decided by racing number, Low numbers get front row starts in the first race and back row starts in the second. This meant 2nd row and 7th row for me. Did not get a good start in the first race and got held up a bit, managed to get up to 3rd by the end. Second race was a nightmare, the guy right in front of me just did not go when the lights changed so that meant I was playing catch up all the way through. Managed to get up to 5th by the end which was ok. This puts me fourth in the championship and on the front row for the next round.

Pembrey New ERA Superclub round 2/3 - May
Loads of rain on the Friday night meant the circuit was flooded at the hairpin. After a long delay it was finally decided to run a shortened track. It was quite short but turned out pretty good for me with some very good results. Ended the weekend with two wins and two seconds and a 31 point championship lead. Also set the fastest lap of the weekend in the class. I am now getting used to the bike with the extra grip the wider wheels are giving me, I can now properly exploit the advantage of riding a two stroke against the four strokes which is higher corner speed.

Donnington New ERA Superclub round 4 - June
As I thought, Donnington was all mine, this bike is awesome round here. I won the two races and set a new lap record at 1 min 18.47 seconds. If anyone had beaten me round here they would have to really ride out of their skins.

Cadwell Park New ERA Superclub rounds 5/6 - June
Cadwell was a struggle for me back in 2001 so I was a bit apprehensive about it. I found I was struggling against the 400s here and ended Saturday with a fifth and a fourth. Sunday started better with a third but then the second race was red flagged on the second lap. I was lying second at the time just behind Duncan Burns with the chasing pack close. Duncan sat up then I sat up and slowed, Chris Hawkes was just behind me and saw me slow, but unfortunately John Couchlan did not see us and ploughed straight into Chris who then hit me. It was a very big crash and we were lucky to get away with the injuries we did. John was the worst and ended up with a chipped vertebrae, not nice. Chris and I were basically walking wounded, I took a very heavy hit to the chest and back and Chris ended up with a nasty gash in his arm. It could have been a lot worse though.

Oulton Park New ERA Superclub round 7 - June
Oulton is a place I like but have never been very fast at so I was glad to see damp weather as it suits me and my bike. First race went ok but Duncan Burns's missile of a bike was just too fast for me and I ended up second. The next race was a bit drier and I was sitting comfortably behind him waiting for the last lap as I had Duncan beat from deers leap to the line. I made a mistake on the fourth lap which let him get about 100 yards on me and I though it was no problem as there was still two laps to go in the six lapper. Unfortunately for me I had not heard the paddock tannoy announce that the races had been cut to five laps, so I came round and saw the last lap flag. I still tried to do it all on that one lap but ended up a quarter of a second down over the line.

Silverstone New ERA Superclub round 8 - June
This is one I just want to forget. Friday practice went well and ended up with a fastest lap of just over 1 minute 4 seconds, pretty good even if I say so myself. Unfortunately I had to buy some more tyres as I only had the one set and Silverstone is very hard on tyres. I had to rush for the first race and just chuck the wheels in with the new tyres as I crashed in morning warm up as I was being silly trying to show Duncan how fast I was. I took the first laps steady to make sure the bike was ok then started to push back to the leaders as I was in third.  As soon as I started to push I lost the front and crashed very heavily taking myself out of that race and the later race. Found out after I got home I had a hard compound front tyre fitted instead of the soft I had asked for. It just had not worked any where near how the soft gripped the day before. You live and learn I will now be checking every tyre fitted by anyone else but myself and not trusting the "Experts". The fastest lap out of the two races was three quarters of a second slower than I went on Friday so I was very unhappy to find out it had not been my fault.

Castle Coombe New ERA Superclub round 9 - June
Had a phone call a week before this race to tell me Duncan had broken his collar bone. "Oh dear I thought that's a shame" I should have taken full advantage of his absence but at the end of the day I ended up with two fourths that brought me closer but still nine points adrift. Still thinking too much about Silverstone.

Snetterton New ERA Superclub rounds 10/11 - June
Came to Snetterton still with a chance of the championship 9 points behind Duncan Burns. It was always going to be a struggle against him at Snetterton as his bike is very fast and he is a lot lighter than me. At the end of the day though conditions should have ironed out any bike differences and he beat me by riding a lot better than me. He won all four races and I had two thirds a second and a fourth to end the season 41 points behind him in second place. Fair play at the end of the year he probably deserved it as we both had problems which cost us points. Just a shame the three races I lost out in were not my fault.
